Best works closely with
William J. Breen and Eileen M Breen, the parents of the current owner founded the company in 1962. The business was incorporated in 1964 as Wm. J. Breen Sales Associates Inc. d/b/a Best Products. The trade name was changed in 1981 to Best Plumbing Specialties. The corporate name was changed in 1991 to Best Plumbing Specialties, Inc.
Bill Breen, a former sales manager of Crest-Good Company, was the company’s first sales representative while Eileen helped with the books while raising their 6 children. Mr. Breen sold plumbing repair parts to plumbers located in Nassau County, Long Island, NY.
Throughout the 1960's and 1970's the company gradually added sales reps and, by the late 1970's Mr. Breen had grown Best into a strong local parts distributor with 7 outside reps and 13 inside support employees. In 1978 the company took out its first 6 figure bank loan in order to buy its first computer. This investment facilitated further expansion. Mr. Breen added 5 sales representatives that year and the company grew to 25 employees in 1979.
By the middle of the 1980's the company had outgrown its facility in Williston Park, NY. The cost of doing business on Long Island along with a chronic difficulty in attracting quality inside people made moving a necessity. In 1986, Mr. Breen moved the warehousing facility to Frederick, MD a growing community which encouraged small businesses.
In 1990 the company moved its offices to Frederick and that year employment exceeded 50 persons.
In 1996, founder, William J. Breen, retired and turned over the operation of the business to his two sons Bill, and Jack. In December of 1998, Best Plumbing Specialties, Inc. was sold to (Bill) William J. Breen III.
In August 2005, due to expansion of the Frederick County Municipal Airport, Best moved its operations to Myersville, MD.
Currently, Best Plumbing Specialties is one of the largest independently owned plumbing specialty houses in the country with sales representatives in more than 25 states, a strong web presence and plans to have sales reps in every major US city within the next 5 years.
